After a rough month, Dennis Herrera picks up big endorsement

May has been a rough month for mayoral candidate Dennis Herrera, but nothing gets you back up on your feet again like an endorsement from San Francisco’s longest serving elected official.

Sheriff Michael Hennessey is backing Herrera in the mayor’s race, citing his “vision for the future of San Francisco and a record of accomplishments that shows he can get the job done,” Herrera’s campaign announced Tuesday.

“I’ve had the distinct privilege of working with six mayors in my capacity as Sheriff, so I know what it takes to be successful in the job,” Hennessey said in a prepared statement. “There are a number of good candidates in this race, but I believe that Dennis Herrera has the leadership experience to move our city forward.”

Herrera’s campaign has been dodging a lot of bad press in the last few weeks over his relationship with lobbyists and his campaign managers, who sometimes are the very same person or work in the very same building.
