Academy of Art University progress report expected by early April

San Francisco’s city planners say they expect to publish their first quarterly report within six weeks regarding the Academy of Art University’s efforts to legalize its operations.

The quarterly reports were requested during a fiery Board of Supervisors’ Land Use and Economic Development Committee hearing into the private university’s housing practices.

The academy converted a number of buildings for classroom space and student accommodation in recent years without securing needed city permits. Academy officials agreed to work with The City to obtain the permits retroactively.

The first quarterly update is expected to be presented to supervisors and the Planning Commission in late March or early April, Planning Department Director John Rahaim said during a recent commission meeting.
