A musical kind of Cinderella man — just in time for gay pride week

"Oh My Godmother!" Bay Area playwright’s Ron Lytle’s campy, boisterous retelling of the Cinderella story, comes to San Francisco after getting rave reviews in the East Bay.

A young gay man, his homophobic stepmother and stepsisters, an it-boy prince and the dishy title character are the primary figures in the hit musical.

Creator Lytle says, "Take everything you know about Cinderella, paint it pink, add some toe-tapping tunes and a surprise or two, and you have ‘Oh My Godmother!’"

The show opens Saturday and runs through July 26; performances are at 8 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays at Zeum Theater, Fourth and Howard streets. Tickets are $25 to $35.
