92-year-old woman’s wedding ring stolen from care facility

An elderly woman awoke Tuesday morning to find her wedding ring missing from the apartment she lives in at a retirement home in the Western Addition.

The 92-year-old woman lives alone in the Rhoda Goldman Plaza care facility on Post Street near its intersection with Pierce Street. She went to sleep around 10 p.m. Monday, woke up at 9 a.m. the next day and realized the ring was gone, police said.

“There is a piece of jewelry missing and we’re still looking for it,” said Peggy O’Brien, a director at the assisted living facility. “We’re on the hunt for it.” O’Brien said they were only sure that the item is missing, not that it was stolen.

There was no sign of anyone breaking into the apartment. However, police noted that caregivers have access to the woman’s apartment.

Police have no suspects in the theft. O’Brien was not able to provide more information on the wedding ring, citing privacy concerns.
