The 49ers have found a deep threat for Colin Kaepernick.

Torrey Smith, who has averaged 16.9 yards per catch in four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, has reportedly agreed to a five-year, $40 million contract ($22 million guaranteed) with the Niners, according to reports Tuesday.

This move, along with last week's signing of former Cincinnati and Minnesota wideout Jerome Simpson to a two-year deal, likely means the end of Michael Crabtree's stay in San Francisco. Crabtree is free agent.

Smith has 213 receptions for 3,591 yards and 30 touchdowns in his career. He is coming off a 49-catch, 767-yard season with 11 touchdowns. The 2014 season was his worst in terms of receptions, yardage and times thrown to deep. However, his 11 TDs were his career high.

The NFL's free-agent signing period opened Tuesday at 1 p.m., following a 72-hour negotiating window.

Meanwhile, Frank Gore apparently is having second thoughts about joining the Philadelphia Eagles. Reports surfaced Tuesday morning that Gore, the 49ers' all-time leading rusher, is expected to sign with the Indianapolis Colts for three years and $12 million, with $7.5 million guaranteed. Gore had reportedly agreed to a similar three-year contract with the Eagles on Sunday.
