49ers at Cardinals preview: Key Matchups

THE EXAMINER PREDICTS ... Much like the St. Louis Rams, these aren’t the same Cardinals the 49ers played in Week 1. Arizona has a balanced offense that can attack on both land and air. And that means the Niners will need more Joe Nedney to make the score close. CARDINALS 24, 49ers 12

Arnaz Battle vs. Antrel Rolle: Trent Dilfer is comfortable with receiver. Caught six passes for 86 yards against the Rams. CB flipped over intercepting two passes and returning them for scores last week.

Brandon Moore vs. Kurt Warner: Linebacker emerged with five tackles, and had 1½ of teams six sacks on Marc Bulger last week. Vet playing with one battered arm is better than Dilfer with two good arms. How bad is that?

Marques Douglas vs. Edgerrin James: Had six tackles a half a sack last week. But right end must do a better job against the run. Just a tad better (3.6 yards per carry) than last season (3.4). But he’s always a threat to score.

COACHES' CORNER

With all the talk regarding assistant coaches coming in (as well as possibly leaving), it’s uncertain if Mike Nolan was even asked a question about the Cardinals. Nevertheless, Nolan needs to focus on trying to win.

First-year Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt is experiencing some growing pains of his own. But at least he has his team at .500 this late in the season for the first time in a while. And that’s always a good thing.
