40th Annual Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off

Gary Miller of Napa, CA, wearing his championship green jacket and black ball cap, won the 40th Annual Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off with his 1,985-pound gourd in Half Moon Bay on Monday, breaking the California weigh-off record for heavyweight pumpkins by 210 pounds. Defending champion Thad Starr, of Pleasant Hill, OR, set the record last year with his 1,775-pound pumpkin. Miller took home a whopping $11,910 for his win. Tim Mathison, also from Napa, took second place, winning $2000 for his 1,894-pound pumpkin.
