3-minute interview with Stephanie Gallo 

The senior director of marketing for the E&J Gallo Winery, the world’s largest family-owned winery, will be part of a panel discussion at the third annualPink Conference Series in San Francisco on Friday at the Marriott San Francisco, a forum on career success and work-life balance, particularly for women.

Obviously, wine is your family’s business. How did you figure out your niche? From a very early age, my grandfather and father really exposed us to all aspects of the business and asked us our opinions on packaging and advertising and point of sale, to when we got over to the wines.

How old were you when you first started enjoying wine? Wine was always present at the table, and we were always allowed to have wine mixed with water. … If we wanted wine, we could have water with a little wine dropped into it. … I think it’s a very European approach to exposing families to wine as part of the meal.

You’ll be speaking about work-life balance. How do you actually do it? Calendars? It’s a combination of things. My personality is that I like to multitask. The key to it is being really flexible and being able to adjust on the fly. I live five minutes away from work. I have an amazing support network of my mom and my grandmother. … It’s part of our corporate culture to embrace family.

What is your favorite wine for drinking, not for pairing with food? That’s like asking ‘What’s your favorite child!’ What I’m drinking now is Gallo Sonoma pinot gris and we have a special family wine that’s sold in our Healdsburg wine shop, Gallo Family Vineyards Winemaker’s Signature, the Tempranillo. That’s my red wine that I’ve been drinking.
