Aaron Schwartz

The San Francisco resident is the co-founder of Modify Watches, a timepiece brand that features interchangeable components for a more personalized design.

What prompted the idea to create Modify Watches?

It’s funny, I’ve never been a fashionable guy at all, but I’ve always appreciated watches and the tradition that comes with them. When I was finishing business school, Gary Hoover [Modify co-founder] and I really loved the idea of an interchangeable watch, and how you can rock your own style. It kind of took off from there.

What makes Modify Watches unique?

Our focus is on personalized service. We don’t want to be the case makers — we want our fans to be.

Modify is based in San Francisco. How does The City influence the company’s philosophy?

The City is all about being who you want to be, and that really feeds into our product.

What was it like to be named an Empact100 young entrepreneurs?

Well, the recognition for my mom was pretty exciting.

You were able to visit the White House because of the honor. How was that?

We didn’t get to meet the president, but there were a couple of senators and House representatives there, so it was still amazing.
