2.4 quake strikes near Concord 

The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 2.4 struck early Thursday in northern Contra Costa County.

According to the USGS, the earthquake struck at about 3:15 a.m. and had a depth of 3.4 miles.

The quake was centered 5 miles northeast of Concord and 5 miles northwest of Pittsburg, according to the USGS.
