2 officer-involved shootings bring Bay Area's weekend death toll to 4

One person died and a second person was taken into custody after an officer-involved shooting in Hayward early Sunday.

The shooting — the third fatal shooting in the Bay Area involving police and suspects over the weekend — came after a Hayward police officer pulled over a car around 3:30 a.m.

Hayward police Sgt. Eric Krimm told KTVU (Ch. 2) the officer opened fire after the driver tried to run the officer down.

The station said after the car crashed a few blocks away, the driver jumped out and was arrested by police. The station said the passenger of the car was found dead in the car.

Sunday’s incident followed a fatal officer-involved shooting in San Jose on Saturday afternoon and a fatal shooting involving Daly City police Saturday morning.
