$16M federal grant will improve Caltrain’s signal technology

Caltrain’s vehicles with soon be more efficient, reliable and safer, thanks to a $16 million federal grant recently awarded to the transit agency for a signal upgrade program.

The federal funding has been allocated to a program jointly run by Caltrain and the California High Speed Rail Authority, which will share the regional rail provider’s right-of-way between San Francisco and San Jose.

The signal upgrade programs will allow Caltrain’s train scheduling to run more smoothly and efficiently, and is the first phase of the agency’s long-awaited plans to electrify its railway, the agency said.
