1,500 pounds of pot found in boat on Malibu beach

Up to 1,500 pounds of marijuana has been seized from a small fishing boat that came ashore on a Malibu beach.

The Department of Homeland Security says three men on board were arrested when the panga boat landed in the dark late Friday at Smugglers Cove on Point Dume State Beach.

City News Service says Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies searched nearby high-priced neighborhoods for a possible fourth smuggler. Officials called off the search late Saturday morning without finding anyone.

The three suspects are expected in federal court on Monday. The men's nationalities have not yet been ascertained.

Pangas are a type of Mexican fishing boat, and are typically 25-to-30 feet long, without cabins and powered by one or two outboard motors.
