15-year-old girl charged with murder in boyfriend’s death

A 15-year-old Oakland girl was charged with murder Monday for the shooting death of her 18-year-old boyfriend early Sunday, Alameda County Assistant District Attorney Matt Golde said.

Golde said he also charged the girl with using a weapon in connection with the death of Davante Riley at an apartment at 2257 East 20th St. in Oakland at 12:14 a.m. Sunday.

The girl is being charged as a juvenile, not as an adult, and is scheduled to appear in Alameda County Juvenile Court on Thursday for a detention hearing.

Golde said the girl told investigators that the shooting was unintentional but he said he charged her with murder because he believes she acted recklessly in handling a gun that was present at the party.

Investigators are still interviewing the people who were at the party and haven’t determined who owned the gun that caused Riley’s death, Golde said.
