$118M paratransit contract supported

A five-year, $118 million contract between the Municipal Transportation Agency and a private paratransit contractor gained support from San Francisco lawmakers Wednesday.

The three-member Budget and Finance Committee unanimously approved the contract. It will next go before the full Board of Supervisors for final authorization.

The MTA’s paratransit service, which caters to passengers with disabilities, carried out more than 1 million trips annually and has about 14,000 registered customers, according to department statistics.

During the term of the proposed contract, all 120 vans in the program will be replaced with more modern, technologically superior versions, said MTA spokesman Judson True.
