$11.1 million funding request for SFMTA’s interim operations center to be heard Tuesday

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency’s plans to build a $29 million operation control center on Market Street could receive a boost Tuesday.

The SFMTA initially wanted to station their communications center at the Transbay Transit Center, but due to funding and timing issues, the agency will settle on an interim location at 1455 Market St. The center, which coordinates the agency’s traffic and transit operations, will cost $29 million, of which the SFMTA is requesting $11.1 million in local transportation tax dollars. The rest of the funding will come from federal, state and other local sources.

On Tuesday, a subcommittee of the San Francisco County Transportation Authority, the agency in charge of allocating The City’s transportation tax, will review the SFMTA’s request for funding. If the committee approves the request, it will go before the full SFCTA board for final authorization on May 25.
