1,000 still without power after Pac Heights outage

An estimated 980 customers with Pacific Gas & Electric Co. are still without power, three hours after an outage blanketed the Pacific Heights neighborhood.

At 12:34 p.m. about 6,600 PG&E customers lost power after a circuit switch failed along Laguna Street along Washington Street, according to PG&E. Within five minutes, the company had restored power to at least 2,000 customers. As of 3 p.m., the company had narrowed the outage to two blocks near Washington and Laguna where the circuit is located.

PG&E spokesman Joe Molica said the company was not working out in the field at the time of the failure and they still do not know what caused the equipment to fail.

“We don’t know why it failed and our first priority is to get everyone back on line,” Molica said. “We are working to have them all back by 5 p.m. this afternoon.”
