$1 million to pick up pops, booms and blasts

The U.S. Department of Justice has doled out $1 million to San Francisco to pay for more ShotSpotter gunfire recognition technology.

The technology currently covers 3.3 square miles in the Mission, Western Addition and Bayview districts. Now, another 4 square miles of sensors will go up in areas such as Visitacion Valley and for equipment that would help officers respond quickly to gunfire.

The grant will be up for approval at the Board of Supervisors Public Safety Committee.
