Woman tells San Francisco police man she fatally stabbed was intruder

A Hunters Point woman told cops she stabbed an intruder to death in her home early Sunday.

Bayview cops found the alleged intruder, identified as 40-year-old Anthony Payne, lying outside the door of the woman's home in the 700 block of Kirkwood Avenue around 4:30 a.m. He had a stab wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The woman called 911 saying an intruder had gotten into her home through an open door. She heard noises before being confronted by him.  She said she stabbed him in self defense, after he tried to choke her, police said.

The woman told police she found the intruder still lying outside her door an hour after the incident. She thought he had fled. It was then that she called 911, police said.

The incident remains under investigation.

Cops secured the scene and all the evidence, including the woman's statements.

Further details were not immediately available.
