Woman shot in Western Addition

A hail of bullets in the Western Addition injured a woman and entered a nearby apartment Wednesday night, police said.

The 26-year-old victim was walking in the 1600 block of McAllister Street about 10:15 p.m.when she was struck in the torso by a bullet, police said. She did not see the shooter, but multiple witnesses heard the shots and saw a man fleeing in a black car westbound on McAllister toward Broderick Street, Officer Gordon Shyy said.

The woman was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered to be life threatening.

The blog Haighteration has been covering the shooting since early Thursday morning and it reports that many witnesses in the area at the time heard shots and ran for cover in local bars while others posted about the incident on Twitter.

One witness, Emily Mann, tweeted “So this just happened: 5 gunshots at McAllister and Divisadero. At least one person shot, taken away in ambulance. #SF”

Other Haighteration readers sent the blog pictures of what they say are bullet holes left by stray bullets from the shooting. One contributor, Patrick Morrow, documents what appears to be a bullet that went through his wall, shattered a glass cabinet and embedded itself in a book.

“Wow that was scary,” Morrow tweeted.
