A 21-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday night in the Bayview district after allegedly punching a nine-year-old boy during a spat over a cell phone and a cigarette, police said.
Police Lt. Julian Hill said it all began when the woman approached the boy and his mother at about 8:30 p.m. on Griffith Street in the Alice Griffith housing projects.
The woman then asked the boy if she could use his mom’s cell phone, and also if she could have a cigarette.
She did not take well to their refusal, according to Hill.
“The suspect got upset and punched the kid in the nose, twice,” he said.
Police arrived and promptly arrested the woman for assault on a child, Hill said. A charge of criminal threats was added after she allegedly told the child, “I’m gonna kill your a--,” he said.
Hill said the boy’s going to be okay.
“Just a bloody nose, mom took care of it,” he said.
