Woman punched in the face while trying to retrieve her bag

A gutless punk socked a 24-year-old woman in the nose after she tried to snag back the purse he robbed from her Saturday night, police said.

The thug hopped out of a red sedan and mugged the woman near Hyde and Sacramento streets around 11:40 p.m., police said.

The woman was not going to give up her purse without a fight. She reportedly chased down the suspect and tried to wrestle back her purse.

The thief punched her in the face, hopped in the car and zoomed off with the purse and two other suspects, police said. The woman said the punch gave her some pain, but she refused medical attention, cops said.

The three thugs were described as Hispanic men in their 20s, they said.

Cops caution about victims taking matters into their own hands.

“We don’t want people to get hurt trying to protect purses that aren’t really of value [when compared] to your life,” police Sgt. Troy Dangerfield said.

Then again, Dangerfield said, “some people may feel more confident.”

Dangerfield offered the recent example of an armed IRS agent that shot two of three armed ingrates that attempted to rob her.

“I don’t know this woman, I don’t know her background,” he said. “People take risks based on whatever level they feel comfortable with.”
