Woman killed in Hwy. 101 crash

The California Highway Patrol has reopened a portion of U.S. Highway 101 in Novato that was shut down for more than two hours this morning due to a fatal crash, a CHP officer said.

A solo-vehicle crash was first reported at around 12:40 a.m. on southbound Highway 101 at De Long Avenue, CHP Officer Robert Haven said.

A preliminary investigation indicates that a woman lost control of her vehicle and drove up an embankment, causing the vehicle to overturn and crash. The woman was killed and two children in the car were airlifted to a hospital with minor injuries.

A Sig-alert was issued at around 12:50 a.m. and canceled when two lanes reopened at around 3 a.m.

The CHP is investigating the crash.
