Woman fatally struck on Caltrain tracks in Redwood City

A woman was struck and killed by a train in Redwood City on Friday morning, an agency spokeswoman said.

The woman was struck at about 6:15 a.m. by Caltrain No. 305 on the northbound tracks at the Redwood City Caltrain stationlocated at 1 James Ave., spokeswoman Christine Dunn said.

Train No. 305 had about 200 passengers on board and was not scheduled to stop at Redwood City. The train was eventually moved to the San Carlos station to allow the passengers to get off, then was taken to a maintenance facility in San Jose, Dunn said.

The Redwood City Caltrain station was closed aftern the accident for about 45 minutes. At about 7 a.m., trains began single-tracking through the area on the southbound tracks but did not stop at the Redwood City station, according to Dunn.

The station reopened at about 9:50 a.m., but delays persisited as Caltrain used only one track through the area, Dunn said.

Some Caltrain routes were canceled morning and some trains were delayed by up to an hour, transit officials said.
