A woman was bound and choked in her South Beach apartment early Tuesday by a man she had met the night before at BART’s Powell Station, police said.
The 36-year-old woman reportedly suffered minor injuries in the terrifying attack in her home in the 200 block of Berry Street, near AT&T Park.
The woman told police she met the man at the BART station about 10 p.m. Monday. They apparently hit it off and exchanged numbers, Officer Albie Esparza said.
Then about 4 a.m. Tuesday, the man called the victim and was invited to her apartment, where they had consensual sex, Esparza said.
After sex, the unarmed man demanded money, then assaulted and choked the woman. He subsequently tied her up and fled. It wasn’t immediately clear if anything was stolen.
The woman managed to free herself and phone police, Esparza said. She was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, but her injuries were not life-threatening.
Police were still searching for the suspect as of Wednesday morning. He was described as a black man in his 30s, 5-feet-11, 240 pounds, wearing a camouflage jacket, jeans, and black and white shoes, Esparza said.
