Woman arrested in connection with hit-and-run death of niece set for arraignment

The woman arrested Tuesday in connection with the hit-and-run death of her 2-year-old niece on Friday in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood is set to be arraigned on the charges Thursday, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Lorysha Gage, 25, of San Francisco, will be arraigned on a felony charge of child endangerment with an enhancement allegation for causing death, spokeswoman Stephanie Ong Stillman said in a statement.

Gage was caring for her niece, Mi’yana Gregory, and the girl's twin brother on Friday as they were crossing Mission Street between Fourth and Fifth streets after seeing a movie.

According to police, Gage and Mi’yana began to cross Mission Street in the crosswalk against the light. Halfway across the street, Gage reportedly went back for the twin brother and left Mi’yana in the street, where she was struck and killed by a white 4-door sedan that fled the scene.

The car and driver remain at large and the car is believed to be a white, late '90s model car, possibly a Toyota Camry, Honda or Lexus.

Gage was arrested by police Tuesday and will be in court Thursday for arraignment at 1:30 p.m., Stillman said.
