Woman arrested for assaulting Tenderloin bartender

A woman was arrested after allegedly assaulting a bartender and trying to steal the tip jar in a Tenderloin bar on Sunday, police Officer Gordon Shyy said Monday.

The incident occurred in the 400 block of Eddy Street near Hyde about 7:30 p.m. when the suspect reportedly entered the bar and was refused service for seeming to be too intoxicated already, Shyy said.

The suspect reportedly became enrage and jumped over the bar and attempted to take the tip jar, Shyy said. The bartender on duty, a 38-year-old woman, tried to stop her but was allegedly struck by the suspect over the head with the tip jar and a glass before the suspect fled the scene on foot.

Police responded to the scene and found the suspect nearby who was positively identified by the victim, Shyy said.

The suspect was identified as 23-year-old San Francisco resident Manisha Johnson, Shyy said. She was booked on assault with a deadly weapon, attempted robbery and battery causing serious injury charges.

The victim sustained a laceration to her forehead and was treated at the hospital for her injuries.
