49ers All-Pro linebacker Patrick Willis recently had surgery to repair his fractured right hand, ESPN reported Monday.

Willis is expected to return in about three weeks. That means he will be ready before the 49ers open the season against the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 8.

He sustained the injury last Wednesday while going against fullback Bruce Miller during a one-on-one pass-rush drill.

In 2005 at Mississippi and with the 49ers in 2007, Willis played with his hand in a cast. In 2010, he had pins inserted into a broken bone in his right hand but the team said at the time only that he was "banged up."

Willis has been named an All-Pro in each of his six seasons. Last year, he had 120 tackles.
