A water main break opened a massive hole in the street at Sunnydale Avenue and Cora Street on Tuesday morning. Flooding left homes in the neighborhood with little to no water pressure, but it was restored by early evening, according to the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission.
Employees at nearby Pump Repair Service said the business suffered damage when the water level outside rose above a foot.
"I heard the ladies in the front office yelling, ‘Emergency!’ So I went up front and there was water flowing in the door," shop foreman Wilbur Norwood said.
Sunnydale Avenue from Peabody Street to Delta Street remained closed Tuesday evening.
"It's gonna take a long time to figure out what all has been damaged,” said Pump Repair Service owner Wayne Archer. “The main thing is, no one is hurt. All the rest is fixable. There is just a lot of cleanup. We're gonna have to get professional help."
