An 18-year-old woman who was robbed of her cellphone in the mid-Market district Thursday night reportedly offered the thief cash for the return of the device. She then had both her phone and money stolen, police said.
The heartless robbery was reported at about 10:15 p.m. in the area of Sixth and Market streets.
The teenager said a woman in her 40s who was accompanied by a man in his 20s had asked her to borrow her phone. The victim refused, police said, and so the suspect hit her and took the phone.
The victim followed the thief and offered cash to recover her phone. But after the victim handed over the cash, the suspect handed the money and the phone to her accomplice. Both suspects then fled, police said, and arrest was reported as of Friday morning.
