Victim hospitalized after umbrella attack

The grey weather is apparently making some people grumpy.

On Tuesday afternoon, police say a man was walking down Market Street between Ellis and Powell streets swinging his umbrella. Another man told him to stop swinging his umbrella because he was going to hit someone with it.

In response, the umbrella-carrying man took a swing at the victim, according to San Francisco Police Lt. Lynn Tomioka.

The suspect then fled, and the victim was hurt badly enough to be transported to the hospital for stitches, she said. Though police responded quickly, witnesses gave conflicting information about where the suspect had fled to and he was never spotted.
