USF lets one slip away

India McDaniel went 15-for-15 from the free-throw line en route to 20 points as the Cal State Fullerton women’s basketball team turned back USF 72-69 Monday.

Toni Thomas (9-of-9 from the line) made two free throws with 35 seconds left to put the Titans (5-7) up 70-69 and, after the Dons’ Dominique Carter missed a jumper, Audrey Taylor made two more with 18 seconds remaining for the final margin. USF (3-8) got off three

3-pointers in the final 10 seconds (two by Nykia Peace and one by Carter), but couldn’t force overtime.

Fullerton was 32-of-34 from the foul line. USF, meanwhile, was 17-of-21.

Carter had 21 points, five rebounds and a career-high six assists, while Peace (12 points) and Heidi Heintz (10) were the only other players to reach double figures for the Dons, who lost their fourth straight — and their second when leading by double-digits.
