Uninjured suspect in KRON reporter robbery attempt to appear in court

It was like a scene straight off the small screen.

The suspect who wasn’t shot during the botched robbery of a KRON television reporter in the Bayview last week is expected to be arraigned Wednesday, according to prosecutors.

John Woods, 19, of San Francisco will be charged with two counts of robbery and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery in connection with the stickup that was reportedly foiled when the news station’s security guard opened fire on the suspects.

The incident unfolded about 8 p.m. in the 1500 block of LaSalle Avenue. Veteran KRON (Ch. 4) reporter Jeff Bush was approached by two suspects while loading camera equipment into the news van.

Woods’ alleged accomplice, Armani McFarland, 19, ordered Bush to “give it up,” police said. After Bush reportedly dropped the camera and took cover behind the van, the security officer pulled out his handgun and shot at McFarland, striking him once.

The suspects fled but were later located by police at San Francisco General Hospital.

McFarland cannot show up to court today because he is recovering from a bullet wound at S.F. General, Assistant District Attorney Alex Bastian said Tuesday.
