Ferry service between the North Bay and San Francisco will be suspended until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, due to a workers’ strike.
A coalition of labor groups, frustrated by stalled contract talks with the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District, have announced plans to strike on Tuesday, but only during the morning hours. The union members, which include ferry operators, have been upset over district plans to reduce their health care and retirement benefits.
As a result of the strike, the district, which runs a transit service along with maintaining bridge operations, will cancel morning ferry routes from Larkspur and Sausalito to San Francisco. The first ferry from Larkspur will not run until 2:15 p.m., and the opening route from Sausalito will be pushed back to 1:55 p.m., according to district spokeswoman Mary Currie.
A little more than 6,500 passengers use the two ferry lines each day.
