  • Two people were stabbed early this morning near Alvord Lake in Golden Gate Park. They were transported to San Francisco General Hospital with life threatening injuries.

A man and woman were stabbed early Wednesday morning near the eastern entrance of Golden Gate Park, police said.

Officers responded to the area around Alvord Lake, near Stanyan and Haight streets, about 2:30 a.m. and found a 23-year-old woman who had been stabbed in the chest and a 26-year-old man who had been stabbed in the abdomen, Officer Gordon Shyy said.

The victims, both identified by police as transients, were transported to San Francisco General Hospital, Shyy said. They were both expected to be discharged from the hospital Wednesday.

The stabbing might have stemmed from a dispute that occurred about 15 minutes earlier at a nearby bar around Haight and Shrader streets, police said.

Investigators are hunting for at least two male suspects who fled in a maroon vehicle northbound on Stanyan Street. The descriptions of the suspects were vague: one was heavyset with dreadlocks and the other wore a white-hooded sweatshirt, Shyy said.

Further information was not immediately available.
