WHO: June Gorman, governor and historian of the Society of Mayflower Descendants in Michigan
WHAT: The Mayflower Descendants have been bumped from Detroit’s annual Thanksgiving Parade.
HOW: Gorman said the plan was to have eight to 10 members dressed in period garb carry the organization’s banner. Instead, she said its application was denied without reason. The group had allotted more than $1,000 for costume rentals and a banner.
EXPLANATION: Anthony Michaels, the parade president and chief executive, said the group failed to include a video and pictures with its application. He said it is not uncommon to be rebuffed from the “entertainment-oriented parade,” which has about 150 groups vying for 64 slots.
