Trigger-happy thief robs gas station

Authorities are hunting a trigger-happy robber who opened fire inside a San Carlos gas station Sunday night.

The suspect, a stocky Hispanic man in his mid-20s, fired his handgun toward the ceiling, injuring no one at Holly Gas & Diesel, located at 907 Holly St., according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspected confronted two clerks, pointing the handgun at each of them and demanding cash. The suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

He was last seen running southbound on Industrial Road. He wasn’t found after an extensive search by sheriff’s deputies.

The suspect, who had a Spanish accent, was described as wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, white T-shirt, black pants, dark shoes and a dark cloth covering his face.

The handgun was a silver, revolver type handgun, the sheriff’s office said.

Anyone with information about the robbery is encouraged to contact the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office Investigation Bureau at (650) 599-1536 or the Anonymous Tip Line at 1-800-547-2700.
