Travelers in areas where the Tour of California cycling race is slated to speed through town today should expect delays and detours between 10 a.m. and noon.
The eight-day race will bring dozens of top cyclists to town — at least for a few minutes — on the second leg of the competition. The route begins in the Marina and passes the Golden Gate Bridge and Ocean Beach before heading down the Peninsula.
But local spectators will have only about a half-hour to see riders whiz by. The race will begin at 11:05 a.m. at Marina Green and is expected to hit San Mateo County by 11:36 a.m.
In between, racers will traverse Marina Boulevard onto Mason Street and past Crissy Field. Then they will pass through the Presidio on Lincoln Boulevard, through Seacliff on El Camino Del Mar, past the Legion of Honor museum at Lands End and onto Great Highway along Ocean Beach. The race will then continue down Skyline Boulevard into Daly City and down state Highway 1.
Racers are expected to complete today’s 117.1-mile leg in Aptos, south of Santa Cruz, just before 4 p.m. The 750-mile race finishes Sunday in Los Angeles.
