Thirsty thug assaults man over beer, steals cellphone in Excelsior-area robbery

This thirsty thug wouldn't take no for an answer.

A man drinking a beer in the Excelsior neighborhood Sunday was assaulted and then robbed by another man who asked him for a sip, police said.

The 45-year-old victim was drinking his beer outside in the 1000 block of Brazil Avenue about 5 p.m. when the 28-year-old suspect approached and asked for a sip, police said. The victim said no and the suds-seeking suspect grabbed the bottle out of his hand.

The thug then hit the victim over the back of the head with the bottle, took his cellphone and fled on foot, police said.

The victim was taken to the hospital for his injuries, which were not life threatening. No arrest has been made.
