The Kooks ‘Shine On’ with new album ‘Junk of the Heart’

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from them, via their Ray Davies-inspired sophomore set “Konk.” But Britain’s brainy Kooks are back, with a new third “Junk of the Heart” set hitting on Sept. 13, through their old imprint Astralwerks. A single by the same name will precede it June 11.

Trying to remember them?

Here’s a handy frame of reference — you’ve probably heard their infectious “Shine On” anthem, over and over again, in the Michelob Ultra beer commercial. Now that’s some killer song placement!

According to bandleader Luke Pritchard, the Tony Hoffer-produced “Junk” was intended to stand the test of time as an upbeat record that fans can listen to as a complete album, from start to finish. And he’ll be offering advance proof to San Francisco acolytes June 22, when The Kooks play a preview show at Slim’s (www.slimstickets.com, with early tickets on sale June 5 to fan club members via www.thekooks.com).

They’re doing the same type of intimate club show in the U.K., plus Los Angeles (The Troubadour on June 23) and New York (The Bowery Ballroom on June 27).

Then get ready for a full-tilt Kooks Komeback tour later this summer.
