When you meet local musician Meric Long, be careful not to shake hands.
His fingernails are filed into razor-sharp points that aid him in his decidedly archaic craft: Fingerpicking intricate acoustic guitar filigrees with his local punk-folk duo The Dodos, backed by his equally inventive percussionist Logan Kroeger.
And the band returns on March 15 with “No Color” on Frenchkiss, which fans can preorder at www.dodosmusic.net and receive an immediate free download of opening track “Black Night.” No painful handshakes involved.
For this fourth set, The Dodos reunited with Portland producer John Askew, who helmed their first two albums, “Beware Of The Maniacs” and “Visiter” (sic). And its expansive new sound reflects Long’s longtime love of huge ’90s guitar riffs, a la Billy Corgan, so you’ll be hearing less acoustic, more electric this time around.
Other tracks are: “Going Under,” “Good,” “Sleep,” “Don’t Try And Hide It,” “When Will You Go,” “Hunting Season,” “Companions” and “Don’t Stop.”
Stay tuned for a tour announcement.
