The Daily Outrage: Feds tell schools to buy toys or else

WHO: The Office of Management and Budget WHAT: Gave a $100,000 stimulus grant to Sheep-Harney Elementary School in Elizabeth City, N.C., to build a new playground. WHY IT'S AN OUTRAGE: We keep hearing about teacher layoffs, enormous class sizes and dilapidated school buildings, but this federal grant's funds cannot be used to cover the essentials -- it must be used for expensive toys, literally. WHERE TO VENT: Department of Education, office of the inspector general 202-245-6911.
