Dynamic dames:

‘Hugo’:
A 12-year-old living in a Paris train station uncovers a mystery that jeopardizes his undercover life and most precious secret, in Martin Scorsese’s family adventure based on Brian Selznick’s book. [Check local listings for theaters]

‘The Descendants’: A Hawaiian lawyer tries to reconnect with his rebellious daughters after his wife suffers a terrible accident in Alexander Payne’s new dramedy. [Check local listings for theaters]

Sports and recreation

Morning trot:
The annual Turkey Trail Trot includes a Turkey Trot run, a Pilgrim Promenade walk, and a Kids Gobbler Chase. Winners receive pumpkin pies and other prizes. [8 a.m., Polo Field, Golden Gate Park, S.F.]

High-school sports: Mission and Washington high schools vie in the 2011 Turkey Day Championship, a football game presented by the San Francisco Unified School District. [11 a.m., Kezar Stadium, 755 Stanyan St., S.F.]

Local events

Donation drive:
St. Anthony Foundation is conducting its annual curbside collection drive. Donations of warm clothing, new toys and dried and canned foods are welcome. [9 a.m. to 3 p.m., 105 Golden Gate Ave., S.F.]

Meet the reindeer: Holiday attractions at the San Francisco Zoo include “Reindeer Romp.” Guests can meet four reindeer and learn about these animals. [10 a.m. to 4 p.m., 1 Zoo Road, S.F.]

Life aquatic: Aquarium of the Bay contains about 20,000 animals, from sharks to starfish. Theme areas include “Discover the Bay,” “Under the Bay” and “Touch the Bay.” [10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Beach Street and Embarcadero, S.F.]
