Terra Nova earns top seed in CCS Open Division playoffs 

After one of its best seasons in school history, Terra Nova High School was rewarded with the No. 1 seed in the Central Coast Section Open Division playoffs Sunday.

The Tigers rolled through the regular season en route to a Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division title, compiling a sparkling 10-0 record in the process. Now, Terra Nova faces a step up in competition in a bracket loaded with West Catholic Athletic League teams, beginning Friday when it hosts No. 8 Valley Christian (7-3) in a quarterfinal game.

Serra of San Mateo is the No. 2 seed in the Open Division and hosts No. 7 Pioneer on Saturday.

The Open Division wasn’t the only CCS bracket that found a San Mateo County team earn the top seed.

Burlingame (10-0) parlayed its PAL Ocean Division title into the top seed in Division III and hosts No. 8 Hillsdale on Friday at 7 p.m. No. 7 Aragon, also out of the PAL Ocean, made the Division III bracket and hits the road Friday to take No. 2 Aptos.

Sacred Heart Prep and Menlo represent San Mateo County in Division IV, as the Gators (9-1) notched the No. 1 seed and a home game against No. 8 Seaside on Saturday. No. 4 Menlo (6-4) will lock horns with No. 5 Monterey on Friday at Sequoia High School in Redwood City.

The lone San Mateo County to school to garner a spot in the Division II field was Menlo-Atherton, which earned a No. 3 seed a home game against No. 6 Oak Grove on Friday.
