Two teens were arrested on Thursday and charges are pending for a third teen in connection with multiple incidents of graffiti in Burlingame, police said.
Burlingame police and neighboring police departments had noticed an increase in graffiti in recent months and investigators were able to identify three potential suspects, police said.
On May 2, three male juveniles were arrested in connection with shoplifting at the Orchard Supply Hardware store in Millbrae, Burlingame police Capt. Mike Matteucci said.
"They were arrested for shoplifting in Millbrae and some of the tags in their books, inside their backpacks, matched the tags in our city," Matteucci said.
Matteucci said that the teens were arrested for shoplifting spray paint from the hardware store.
On Thursday, Burlingame detectives gained evidence that linked all three shoplifting suspects to the graffiti case.
Burlingame detectives served two search warrants at the suspects' residences in Burlingame and San Mateo and conducted a probation search at the third suspect's home in Millbrae on Thursday, police said.
Based on evidence found during the searches, the two 16-year-old suspects were arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism in connection with the graffiti found in the area. Both suspects were booked into the San Mateo County Juvenile Detention Center, police said.
The 17-year-old suspect from Millbrae was already in custody at juvenile hall on unrelated charges and felony vandalism charges are pending against him, police said.
