Suspected bank robber shot by San Francisco police near Buena Vista Park

Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that injured a suspected bank robber adjacent to San Francisco's Buena Vista Park on Tuesday evening, a police spokesman said.

Officers responded at about 5:40 p.m. to the unit block of Buena Vista Avenue East, which is between Haight Street and Duboce Ave, where they were trying to apprehend the bank robbery suspect, Lt. Troy Dangerfield said.

The male suspect attempted to flee, and Dangerfield said that officers fired and struck the suspect.

The man, who sustained what Dangerfield said were life-threatening injuries, was transported to a hospital.

Information about whether the suspect was armed was not immediately available, he said.

An investigation is ongoing, and he said it was also unclear when the initial robbery occurred.

Police had closed off the area, including sidewalks, with police tape. At least five patrol cars had responded to the intersection as of 6:20 p.m.
