Suspect jailed in auto boosts

One man is in jail Wednesday night after he was caught trying to break into a car near Sansome and Sacramento streets.

According to police, a passerby noticed a black male in his 50s checking out cars in Financial District. When he smashed a window to grab something out of a vehicle – often referred to as an “auto boost” – the onlooker called 911.

Police responded to the area and chased down the suspect, according to police officials. The man is now in custody.

Auto boosts have been increasingly reported in The City, especially around the holidays when additional items are left in cars.
