Suspect in failed San Francisco robberies succeeds in being arrested

A man was arrested after allegedly twice failing to rob women of their purses in South of Market on Saturday night.

The suspect was tackled to the ground by a good Samaritan after he tried to swipe a woman’s purse on the 200 block of Fifth Street about 11:45 p.m., police said. Police arrived and arrested the man.

About 15 minutes before that incident, police said, the suspect had grabbed a woman’s purse on the 900 block of Folsom Street. She was reportedly thrown to the ground, but held on to the purse. The suspect gave up and fled, police said.
