Uyen Nguyen is the co-founder of OneVietnam Network — a San Francisco-based nonprofit dedicated to connecting Vietnamese people around the world to philanthropic causes — and her team are throwing the Street Eats Charity Gala on Sept. 18 at the Ferry Building.
What is the significance behind this event? This event marks our very first charity gala. It’s our first major fundraising event to go toward supporting the organization as well as our various projects. ... This is a very interesting concept where we have master chefs rolling up their sleeves to bring you street foods from around the world.
Is there a better place than San Francisco to host this event? No ... I don’t think so. San Francisco is absolutely perfect. It’s OneVietnam’s home and it is like the foodie and food capital of the world. We’re expecting 300 people at the least.
How did this foundation come about? Myself and James Bao co-founded the organization. We woke up one day and thought we want to do something and give back to our community. There just wasn’t anything out there that we thought was user-friendly enough for young people to be engaged in philanthropy in this community.
