Stock drops, so go out and get ’em

While I spoke of possibly selling some of your stud players high two weeks ago, there’s also a chance for you to grab a couple of guys who have been slow starters.

While certain players are considered a waste of time to try and pick up (sorry, Shaun Alexander), several guys still have a shot to turn things up as we get into the meat of the season:

» Maurice Jones-Drew: After starting the first three games averaging just more than 33 yards per game, Jones-Drew had 82 yards rushing and a touchdown on just nine carries last week (to go along with 30 yards receiving). The Jacksonville Jaguars’ offense can’t sputter all season. And, eventually, quarterback David Garrard will come to his senses and give more touches to his sophomore back.

» Hines Ward: After catching nine balls for 108 yards and a touchdown in his first three games, the former Super Bowl MVP hasn’t been in action for two weeks. But when he’s healthy (and he’s getting there), he is still clearly the best receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense. And with Ben Roethlisberger throwing the rock better these days, Ward will be the biggest beneficiary.

» Marques Colston: Some Colston owners blame the sophomore jinx for his slow start (54 yards per game). Others believe the New Orleans Saints have returned to earth. But believe me, this guy’s a beast. And now that Deuce McAllister is out for the season, Drew Brees will start throwing more often. Get him if you can.

STONE-COLD LOCK: Derek Anderson vs. Dolphins: The Cleveland Browns’ quarterback threw five touchdown passes in his first start against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2 (win). The following week, he threw for 248 yards and two picks against the Raiders (loss). He followed that with two TD passes against the Baltimore Ravens (win). And last week, he threw three picks against the New England Patriots (you guesed it, a loss). My guess is against the winless Miami Dolphins at home, Anderson will keep the pattern going with a victory. And he’s been throwing the ball well in all games. It’s getting to the point where he’s becoming a must-start every week.

That’s right, I said it.
